Woop’s Birthday in US time….
We were treated to an amazing brekky of omelette with bacon, chives,
mint and coriander. He also added a
tomato & onion ‘hash’. Loved
it! We went out to have a look at
Cabela’s whilst waiting to see if Woop’s application to allow us to visit Luke
AFB would be approved. Liked looking at
all of the outdoor gear, made a few purchases.
Woop had to change into uniform to take us to the airforce base.
Woop had to change into uniform to take us to the airforce base.
A few technicalities but eventually permission was granted. I was so excited!! Woop showed us around and we went to the base retail area and had lunch, bought souvenirs. Lots of loud aeroplane noises intermittently throughout the day! Woop took us out onto the flight line and we stood as close as we were allowed, to a new F-35 Joint Strike Force fighter. Serial number A35-002 (“Aussie 2”) – one of only 2 currently on the base, Australian owned! Very special. They are loud! They are fast! It was a complete thrill to be allowed there.
Woop took into his office and we met some of his colleagues, all very nice, very funny people. I can see why he loves his job.
The heat finally got to us, we went home to cool off and feed the wildlife, enjoy cold beers. We sat looking out at the sunset, which was so beautiful with its pink colours and the purple hues of the developing thunderstorm.
Lightning and full moon to boot! Unfortunately no rain for us but the Phoenix area did get some. Woop showed his cooking skills again with spaghetti bolognaise cooked in his pressure cooker and we topped it off with red wine. Somehow, we all ended up slothed out on the lounges watching the first series of Game of Thrones in the dark – it was great – and how much we’d forgotten from the beginning episodes.
