31 August - Picked up at 5am, 9C and headed for BNE
international airport. Arrived 6.30am –
a good time to check in, airport fairly quiet.
Used Davo’s Qantas Club membership to check in through the Business Class line! The Qantas Club lounge almost desserted so we
found a very comfortable area to have breakfast complete with champagnes!
We had chosen seats at the back of the plane, row 70. Thought that would be good until the baby
started screaming! Food was average,
service from staff: average. A little
bumpy through the night, not that I felt it because I had a few reds to send me
off to sleep. David, however, was not so
lucky and was kept awake by children running up and down the aisles, grabbing
onto his arm as they went past!
Arrived LAX on time, 6am. Damn hot
when we got off the plane. Getting
thorugh customs and immigration was uneventful.
Found the rental car bus area, took the Avis bus and picked up our
camry! Freedom! Drove to Manhattan Beach for breakfast at
Bill’s Pancake House! Yummo!
Took off for Palm Springs – busy on the freeway and saw an ‘Elvis’ – the
water bombing (fire suppression) helicopter doing its best to put out a large
wild fire. Did I mention it was hot?
Arrived Palm Springs – 114F (45C) – booked into the Triada. They gave us an
upgraded room which had a sitting room, lounge room and kitchen – WOW! 2 beautiful pools and great air
conditioning. We loved it! Stayed overnight only. Had a late lunch at Sherman’s and took cake
away ‘for later’….?
